Job Description

Licensed Clinical Psychologists will serve on a mobile behavioral health team providing medical readiness processing and screening services to assist the US Army Southeast Regional Medical Command (SERMC) Medical Treatment Facilities (MTFs) in the performance of a variety of pre-and post-deployment psychological screening activities. These activities will include (but are not limited to) Soldier Readiness Processing (SRP), Reverse Soldier Readiness Processing (RSRP), Periodic Health Assessments (PHA), Pre-Deployment Health Assessment (PDHA) and Post-Deployment Health Reassessment (PDHRA). Behavioral health processing and screening activities will be used to assess Soldiers’ general and specific psychological health status prior to deployment and post deployment, document psychological health status using appropriate Military Health System forms and automated information systems, make referrals to appropriate specialists for additional screening or treatment and provide appropriate medical services as directed by the Officer/Civilian in Charge of the Soldier processing clinic, medical treatment clinic or department to which the clinical social worker is assigned. Clinical/counseling psychologists will also provide the services of a behavioral healthcare provider at Medical Treatment Facilities in SERMC and may be utilized to provide backfill for providers who are deployed or unavailable at an MTF, clinic or site. Individuals will be required to travel to various MTFs within the SERMC. When not in a temporary duty status, psychologists will be home-based at an MTF. At the home-base, they will perform routine behavioral health functions consistent with clinical social work duties under the direct control and supervision of the department chief, clinic chief or appropriate designee. Clinical/counseling psychologists will be home-based at Fort Campbell (KY), Fort Benning (GA) or Fort Stewart (GA). Duties: - Perform all procedures/duties that are normal to the scope of practice for clinical or counseling psychologists and for which privileges are granted by the MTF. (These duties shall be essentially the same as those required of any Medical Corps Officer or government civil service provider of similar experience and in similar duty assignments.) - Screen Soldiers to identify complex behavioral health conditions that may negatively impact a Service Member’s ability to complete their military duties. - Conduct Battlemind training for all Post-Deployment Health Risk Assessment-eligible Soldiers. Training will be administered to groups of 20-30 Soldiers in order to encourage discussion between Soldiers. - Maintain complete and accurate records and document all client contacts/services provided IAW professional Standards, DOD, Army, installation and facility directed administrative requirements. - Upload patient documentation into MEDPROS. - Review and discuss patient responses on appropriate forms. - Review available medical records and recommend follow up with primary care managers as appropriate - Document profiles that would limit deployment status. - Make decisions regarding behavioral health referrals and urgency - When not conducting medical readiness processing duties: obtain clinical history; assess patients; actively coordinate mental health interventions; provide culturally-competent services; consider a wraparound planning process; incorporate evidence-based interventions; ensure continuity of care during transitions between levels of care; and implement prevention strategies in clinical practice.
