Job Description
This classification is directly under the Senior Manager. Qualifications include a broad range of experience and managerial ability. This individual is responsible for the direct management of a project, including the technical review of all working reports, and will serve as the day-to-day overseer of all project activities.
Responsibilities include:
1) Evaluate the approach and methodologies employed by project team and make recommendations regarding industry best practices to ensure compliance with the client's methodology for managing projects;
2) Review selected project plans and reports in detail, identify issues and obstacles and recommend changes or adjustments to project plans, including the adequacy of project team organization, communications, processes, reporting, financial planning, and reliance on inhouse
versus outside expertise. Maintain an updated issues list;
3) Design and provide standardized written reports concerning individual project’s progress, based on requirements provided by client agencies. Report format must be approved by the client;
4) Make recommendations to client agencies that will ensure that the planned efforts are completed on time and within budget;
5) Review project task orders, statements of work, change orders and related project scope documentation and advise management on reasonableness as requested;
6) Schedule, conduct, attend, and document project review meetings;
7) Advise client agencies on the need to acquire additional equipment and/or resources to facilitate the client’s technology project;
8) Identify functional enhancements and process improvements to client agency desktop applications for submitting, evaluating, approving, and tracking IT projects;
9) Assist in the identification and evaluation of enterprise project monitoring tools and reporting applications and assist in the implementation of the chosen product(s);
10) Identify risks, report such risks in a timely manner and prepare corrective action that could mitigate risks;
11)Monitor project health, quality of deliverables, and reasonableness of work effort to deliver on milestones.
Notes: MS Project is the standard project planning and reporting tool used by the client. As such, the Senior Project Manager must be familiar with this product. In addition, to facilitate collaboration, provide content management and implement business processes, many client's agencies utilize Microsoft SharePoint. As such, the Senior Project Manager must also be familiar with this product. Some agencies also make use of timesheet reporting for cost allocation.
Accreditation must minimally meet the standards of accreditation for PMI and include, but not be limited to, the following attributes:
• Demonstrated the appropriate education and/or professional experience;
• Passed a rigorous examination;
• Agreed to abide by a professional code of conduct;
• Commitment to maintaining active credentials through meeting continuing certification requirements.
